Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA) Certified Courses

Life Support s.r.o. has been cooperating with WMA Europe since 2024 with the aim of delivering high-quality, internationally certified wilderness medicine training in Central and Eastern Europe. Our courses stand out from other WMA courses offered in Europe by being held in remote locations – such as mountain huts or former military training grounds – with a strong emphasis on practical, outdoor-based instruction.

The Right Course for the Right Person

If you’re looking for a course that will teach you a wealth of practical skills in real-world outdoor conditions, you’re in the right place. However, it’s certainly not for everyone.

Prepared for Practice

Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA) trains individuals to provide practical medical care in demanding environments. It offers participants a unique opportunity to gain the skills required to deliver essential patient care in remote and resource-limited settings. The curriculum is designed to develop the abilities needed to provide effective assistance in any environment.

We currently offer two types of courses: Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA), Wilderness First Responder (WFR), and it’s hybrid version (HWFR).

Wilderness Advanced First Aid  (WAFA)

The Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) course is a four-day comprehensive medical training programme, designed primarily for professionals and group leaders operating in remote and challenging terrain. It teaches the practical skills necessary to provide effective patient care when hospitals or emergency services may be hours—or even days—away.

The course prepares participants to manage long-term patient care, operate in extreme conditions, and work with improvised equipment.

Wilderness First Responder (WFR and HWFR)

The Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is traditionally delivered as an eight-day training or a five-day hybrid format (HWFR), which combines in-person training with an online component. It is designed primarily for professionals working in remote areas, such as outdoor instructors, wilderness guides, military personnel, rescue teams, wildland firefighters, and field researchers.

The course provides in-depth knowledge and skills required to manage urgent medical situations in settings where professional care may be unavailable for days or even weeks. A core component of the WFR curriculum is the assessment and management of the most common injuries and illnesses encountered in wilderness environments.

Why Choose a WMA Course Co-Organised by Life Support s.r.o. in the Czech Republic?

Most WMA courses in Europe are taught in classroom settings on the outskirts of cities. In contrast, we teach in real outdoor environments—often in the mountains, in harsh weather, in strong winds, low temperatures, and even in the dark. Our WMA courses are therefore not suited to everyone. However, a reasonably fit individual without physical limitations should be able to complete the course successfully. If you are unsure whether the course is right for you, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Standard first aid procedures are often insufficient in situations where follow-up medical care is unavailable or where significant delays in evacuation are expected. Wilderness first aid courses teach both new principles and practical skills that participants can apply in demanding conditions far from civilisation.
